Ribbon Cutting Celebrating Cochran County Food Box

South Plains Community Action Association and local Cochran County community leaders will join in celebrating the Cochran County Food Box opening.

Morton, TX — South Plains Community Action Association is glad to announce the ribbon cutting ceremony occurring on July 31st, 2026, for the Cochran County Food Box. The ceremony will take place at 11:30am at the Food Box site, located at 200 W. Taylor Avenue in Morton, Texas.

After reviving operations of the Hockley County Food Box in 2023 and opening a brand-new food box in Terry County just last year, SPCAA has been steadily expanding their food assistance initiative all across the South Plains region. “Hunger is a battle many of our communities are facing.” said Bill Powell, SPCAA Executive Director. “We want to make sure we’re doing our part by partnering with local community leaders, providing resources when needed, and doing anything in our ability to combat hunger.” He added.

SPCAA partnered with various local leaders in Cochran County including Judge Pat Henry, The Cochran Foundation, and many others. The collaborative effort will come to fruition with the ribbon cutting ceremony and then actual food box distributions happening right afterwards. Individuals who are seeking food assistance must reside in Cochran County and provide a government-issued photo ID and utility bill.

For those interested in doing their part in the fight against hunger, the Cochran County Food Box is accepting donations in the form of food and money. Food donations should preferably be shelf-stable items like dry and canned goods and made directly to the food box in Morton starting on Friday, July 31st. The food box will be open on the last Friday of every month from 1pm to 3pm. More dates may be available following demand for donations.

For individuals who are unable to make in person donations, SPCAA has a Donate Now link on their website at www.spcaa.org.
