“Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community, and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.”
These words, which make up the Promise of Community Action, have guided SPCAA since our start in 1965. As an agency, we have always been committed to improving the lives of our community members through various programs, all of which are designed to promote self-sufficiency and economic health. This unwavering commitment extends into our agency’s work locations, which reflect the diversity of our communities.
These are anxious times, with every day bringing new uncertainties. There continue to be more questions than answers, and none of the answers seem simple or clear. It is easy to feel confused or fearful. During this time of social anxiety, SPCAA affirms that the health of our communities lies in strengthening our connections as neighbors, family members, and co-workers.
From Community Action’s start in the civil rights movement in the 1960s, we have – and will continue to – denounce all forms of violence and any acts that dehumanize anyone, but that particularly affect members of marginalized populations. All of SPCAA’s employees believe this and live it. Now is a time to stand up for these core principles, to fight against the darkness of these times, and to work together to create a country where social injustices and other forms of oppression no longer exist. It is time for a change; silence is no longer an option. We must, clearly and loudly, embody Community Action’s “spirit of hope” so that our country’s healing may begin.
The SPCAA cares about the Entire Community.
