Food Box Grand Opening in Cochran County Surpasses Expectations

Morton, TX — On July 31st, 2026, South Plains Community Action Association hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the grand opening of the Cochran County Food Box. 

Community members seeking food assistance began lining up at the Activity Building in Morton, Texas early in the day. The impressive turnout was a pleasant surprise for SPCAA staff who were hoping for a decent sized crowd. "It's obvious that there is a need in this community for food assistance, and I am just glad our agency is here to help meet that need." said Henry Tarango, Community Services Director for SPCAA. 

In total, SPCAA donated 105 food boxes to Cochran County locals. SPCAA hopes to see continued attendance at the food box from individuals battling hunger. Currently, the food box is being on the last Friday of every month from 12pm to 2pm. However, with additional demand, the agency hopes to add more dates to the food box. 

For those interested in doing their part in the fight against hunger, the Cochran County Food Box is accepting donations in the form of food and money. Food donations should preferably be shelf-stable items like dry and canned goods and made directly to the food box in Morton located at 200 W Taylor Ave.
