(LEVELLAND, TEXAS) – As the school year begins, South Plains Community Action Association has been contributing to students across the community in significant ways.
SPCAA participated in back-to-school events across the South Plains area including the highly successful inaugural Back-to-School Bash hosted at Mahon Public Library in Lubbock, Texas. Programs from Head Start to Weatherization joined in on the cause and contributed important supplies like backpacks and composition notebooks. “The initial idea was to be able to bring all of our resources together to provide more vital school supplies to more families. And I believe we were successful.” says Margie Carrasco, an employee of SPCAA that was integral in planning the event. “[Children] were given backpacks, supplies, hygiene items, food, haircuts, and an overall fresh start to a new school year. We were overjoyed to provide children with back-to-school necessities but even more grateful for the moments we were able to help provide hope. Sometimes, just one resource can make a life changing difference.” added Margie.
Contributing to families in need is not a new practice for SPCAA. In fact, many programs under the agency work towards serving children and their parents who might be facing a difficult time. While shopping for school supplies can be overwhelming and frustrating for many, SPCAA is proud that families across the South Plains have a few less items on their list to worry about.
